Hase temple / 長谷寺

I visited Hase temple to see peony flowers early in May. The temple is one of the oldest temples in Yamato area. The shops and restaurants in front of the temple were hawking their wares and that made me imagine the bustle of the town which is called “Monzen-cho” in those days. 

 長谷寺に牡丹の写真を撮りに行きました。

 It has been a site for Kannon worship and embraced by the mass of the people. It was burnt down 9 times and most of times rebuilt thanks to the contributions which the priests devoted themselves to solicit. This is because the temple wasn’t designated as “Kan-ji” which could gain guardianship and financial support from the government. Regardless of high and low, all ranks and classes like the dynastic ladies of letters, the Medieval travelers and poets and the writers in early-modern times it was loved and always be there in the very back of a secret country.  

上下貴賎問わず王朝の女流文学者も中世の旅人や歌人も近世の小説家にも愛され、感情的にも地形的にも長谷は籠国の奥にありました。 自然と一体となって独特の空間を作り上げ、建造物と背景の境界線は溶け合っていました。

こうした美しい風景は、誰が領く(所有している)わけでもないから、その景色を生命と考えて良いという安心感があります。 この一帯は全てが綯交ぜになっているという事を感じられる、奈良らしいもっとも素敵な場所ではないでしょうか。全から時系列をすっぱ抜き俯瞰で見てみて、一つ一つの要素や、その動きや流れ方を感じられるようになれば、全く異なる事象（たとえば人の体の中とか、交通とか）に関しての流れを感じとる作業にも応用できる気がしています。
